Resetting All Parameters of an Apple Computer

Just in case that you have totally screwed the content of your NV-ram on one of your Apple systems, the following procedure resets the whole thing back to it's default state.

First you have to enter the OpenFirmware by pressing Alt-Apple-O-F when the starting chime comes up. Then type

  reset-nvram
  reset-all

After the second command, the computer reboots. Again, at the starting chime, now press (and keep it pressed) Alt-Apple-P-R until the bell has come up 4 times. Now all parameters are reset.

As a sidenote: this procedure was the standard method to start with when I complained about the fan-noise of my iMacG5. The techsupport claimed, that for some people, this has reduced or eliminated the problem. Well, it didn't help.
